Dryer vent cleaning and repair in Hagerstown, MD
Is your dryer taking two cycles to dry a load?
We clean dryer vents, and repair crushed or disconnected duct, for homeowners in Hagerstown and across Washington County, MD. Call us at (240) 388-2417 or send a message, and tell us where your dryer sits and how far the vent runs.
Lint builds up slowly, so the signs creep up on you. Watch for these:
- Long dry times. A load that used to dry in one cycle now needs two, or the clothes come out hot and still damp.
- A hot laundry room. Warm, humid air that cannot leave through the vent ends up in the room instead.
- Lint behind the dryer or around the duct connection. Lint on the floor or on the back of the machine means air is leaking out of the duct.
- A burning smell when the dryer runs. Stop using the dryer and call us.
You can also stand outside while the dryer runs. If little or no air comes out of the vent hood, or the flap barely moves, something is blocking the run.
Why vents in newer homes and basement laundry rooms clog faster
Lint settles wherever air slows down, and a longer, more crooked path gives it more places to settle. Many homes in the newer subdivisions around Hagerstown have laundry rooms in the middle of the house, so the vent has a long way to go to reach an exterior wall. Every extra foot and every elbow slows the air.
Basement laundry rooms add their own trouble. The duct often climbs, crosses the ceiling joists and then turns out through the wall, and the dryer sits low where a loose joint or a crushed section is easy to miss. Duct that is bent, flattened behind the machine or pulled apart at a joint holds lint and leaks it into the room. Ribbed flexible duct catches lint more easily than smooth metal pipe.

What a dryer vent cleaning includes
We clean the whole run, from the vent hood outside to the back of the dryer.
- We clear lint from the full length of the duct, not just the first few feet.
- We clean the vent hood or cap and check that the opening is clear and the flap moves freely.
- If there is a booster fan on the run, we check it.
- We check the connections at the dryer and at the wall, and look for crushed, kinked or loose sections.
If we find duct that is crushed or pulled apart, or a cap that is damaged, we repair those duct sections and caps. If the problem is bigger than that, we tell you what we found and what it means before you decide anything.
Why a clogged vent is a safety problem, not just an annoyance
Lint is dry and catches fire easily. When a vent is packed with it, the dryer’s hot air has nowhere to go, and the heat and the lint sit together in a duct inside your walls or ceiling. That is how a slow dryer turns into a fire risk.
A clogged vent also makes the dryer run longer and hotter to do the same job. If you smell something burning when the dryer runs, stop the dryer and call us before you use it again.
What dryer vent cleaning costs, and what changes the price
We do not list a flat price, because the job is not the same in every house. Call (240) 388-2417, describe the run, and we will tell you what we need to know. These are the things that move the price:
- How long the run is and how many turns it takes.
- Where the dryer sits (basement, main floor or upstairs) and where the vent comes out (side wall, low on the foundation, or roof).
- The condition of the duct: crushed, disconnected or damaged sections add repair work.
- Whether the cap needs repair or replacing.
- How easy it is to get to the back of the dryer and the duct behind it.

Questions we get about dryer vents
There is no single number that fits every house. A short, straight run and a small household collect lint slowly. A long run, several turns or laundry most days collect it faster. If you see the signs above, do not wait for a date on the calendar. It also helps to check the airflow at the outside hood every few months.
When we clean the run, we look for crushed, kinked or disconnected duct. We repair those duct sections, and we repair damaged caps. If what we find is bigger than that, we tell you before you decide anything.
Partly. Emptying the lint trap and cleaning behind the dryer helps, and a short, straight run can sometimes be cleared with a brush kit and a vacuum. Long runs, runs with several turns and crushed or disconnected duct need full-length tools, and a brush cannot fix a flattened section. If you have brushed the vent and the dryer still runs long, call us.
Roof vents are usually long runs, and lint collects at the cap and flap at the top as well as along the duct. Tell us when you call that the vent comes out through the roof, so we plan for the cap and the length of the run before we arrive.

They were on time, and did a very thorough inspection of our chimney interior and exterior. They took pictures of areas of concern and explained well what what needed to be done or could be left as is. He didn't try to upsell me on anything unnecessary. He also advised us on how to care for everything moving forward and suggested what a plumber might want to to do the next time he is in, thus saving us having a plumbing inspection for certain items. They kept everything on the house very clean. They are not the first chimney service we've used in town but will be the only service we will use moving forward. They did excellent work and we're honest.![]()

Two wonderful men from Andrews Chimney Service came to my house Friday and again today to work on my chimney. They were very professional, and very thorough. They were very polite and knew exactly what they were doing. I thought I would have a mess afterwards but I didn’t at all. I was impressed. I would recommend them to anyone that needs their service. Again, thank you Andrews.![]()

You do yourself a disservice if you don’t consider Andrews Chimney to clean, fix or upgrade your chimney. It is sometimes hard to see the finished product, because after all, it is a chimney, however, if you look closely, you can tell the work is quality as well as the materials used. We had our chimney upgraded to meet current code two years ago. The cost was more than fair.![]()

Professional, left no mess behind, and he pointed out some things that may need to be replaced in a couple years. Time to start a fire with some peace of mind.
