The town sits on the Potomac and the C&O Canal. In town you will find older brick and frame houses, and toward Hagerstown along US 11 the homes are newer. The two ends of town need different things.

The older houses tend to have older chimneys. Brick that has been through many freeze-thaw winters can lose mortar and crack at the crown, and an old flue deserves a look from the inside as well as the roof. The newer homes toward Hagerstown more often have a factory-built fireplace with a metal chimney, or a gas or prefab unit, and those have their own cleaning and inspection needs.

The newer homes along US 11 often have the dryer far from an outside wall, which means a long run of vent, and lint builds up in a long run. If clothes take more than one cycle to dry, the laundry room feels hot, or you see lint around the outside vent, have the vent checked. Do not wait for the dryer to quit.

Dryer vent cleaning and repair. We clear the lint from the run and repair damaged sections. Built-up lint is a fire risk, so this is one of the simplest ways to make a house safer.

Repair and masonry. On the older brick houses in town, we look first at the crown and the mortar joints. We also repair caps and flashing and fix leaks.

Relining and rebuild. If a flue is unlined or damaged, relining is the fix. If the chimney cannot be patched, we can rebuild part or all of it.

It is sometimes hard to see the finished product, because after all, it is a chimney, however, if you look closely, you can tell the work is quality as well as the materials used.
